Hitchhiker, vagabond, drifter...pilgrim?  That's not a word you get to use every day.  In the very religious land that is France...psyche!  France although very catholic is not very religious anymore but do you remember the old French adage assume to never assume?  Every year pilgrims, not the buckle mayflower ones, make a trip to north western Spain.  The goal of the pilgrimage is the Catedral de Santiago de Compostela where supposedly lies the final resting place of St. James also known as James the son of Zebedee.  Spanish tradition goes that after preaching in Spain, James was subsequently beheaded in Jerusalem where apon his fellow disciples returned his body to Spain.  With the muslim moorish invasion of Spain the tomb of James was kept miraculously safe there apon beginning a pilgrimage to the very cathedral.   Its one of the 3 major pilgrimages the other two being Rome and Jerusalem starting in the 10th century.  Along the marked path...

Gelée royale and drafts and microbes, oh my!

This is a fun post about 3 major facets of French health to be aware of. 1) -Gelée Royale- 2)-Drafts - 3)-Microbes- Oh Gelée Royale you strange thing that has infiltrated every health conscious French persons' home.  The goji berry of the French household is this prized little package, basically the white stuff that bee larvae live in in the bee hive.  Nutritious, body cleansing, immunity boosting, skin clearing, metabolism kick starting larvae yolk.  It's everywhere in drinks,vitamins, shampoo, health products and of couse fresh, found in small canister like containers refrigerated.  Some local farms that produce honey also sell the royal jelly.  Here's a lady talking about why she likes it:  http://www.bee-pollen-buzz.com/health-benefits-of-royal-jelly.html This one was a shocker for me because of see how much people like to air things out over here: I mean even up here in the north where I I forget where the sun is and ...

Quoi de neuf

Since last week I've been spending a lot of time in Avignon and in some other towns.  It's neat because lately I've been able to get around in the city, now i  know the feel of the different neighborhoods and the major streets that go through them.  My friends have been laughing because I'm the one who remembers how to get to Tarascon or where the Decathlon is on the south side of town or which exit to take to get to Le Pontet.  I still get lost but I'm like a bad penny I just keep coming back again.   I'm feeling more comfortable in Avignon.  I got to see a Frenchwoman in town pour a bottle of water on a woman and her dog from her window because the dog was peeing on her wall.  That was an animated discussion.  Which heads up, Avignon is not the cleanest city.  Dogs are allowed to relieve themselves freely on the streets, and there are lots of dogs in Avignon.   As for my back, it's feeling a lot better and I fixed my bike up only to ge...
