Paris Round 2

Back in Paris-gist of what happened 

Day 1
Almost got ripped off by scam artists at the metro
Mixed my English and French "Bonjour, four timbres s'il vous plait"
Ate, meals and crêpes (crap as my laughing grandparents say : )) 
Saw the Montmartre cemetary and it's famous inhabitants, Alexandre Dumas and François Truffaut
Walked in Montmartre, the Moulin Rouge and it's shops
Lots of homeless people in this area
Watched artists paint 
Walked the hill up to the Sacré Coeur 

Day 2
Went from one place to another for food; grocery for yogurt, next grocery for pastries (donuts for grandpa) and Starbucks for coffee
Metro to Orsay museum (no pictures inside) -> Louvre is closed on Tuesdays 
There was a special exhibition on Gustave Doré which was pretty cool.
Saw lots of beautiful artwork including Van Gogh's paintings which made me happy
RER to Eiffel tour, said 'voila the tower' and they said 'that's nice where are we going next?',walked around a tad, saw a sign for some "hot whine" 
It rained, we drank lots of coffee 
Metro back to Montmartre 
Made lots of short stops for food, Mcdonalds for grandparents a falafel for myself (falafel is the most amazing street food, yes it is a fried vegetarian meatball but you have all those veges and pita bread, it's my idea of healthy street food)
Saw Sacré Coeur again, shopped and walked around a tad

What to do in the event your wallet is stolen

If Paris was a person I would go up to her (she is that catty girl from high school didn't you know) and say 'you must have some serious personal problems' and walk away.  Paris has never liked me.  This trip Paris liked me even less.  My latched bag was no problem for the sneaky pickpocket that snagged my wallet.  Lesson learned,never keep your passport and cash in the same area and don't carry it on you when traveling lock it in your bag in the hotel (or hostel).  Flashback to Chicago as I am somewhat mawkishly ogling my passport looking back on my 3 last visas and international stamps thinking to myself how I want to fill this passport up in the 5 years it was valid.  Flashforward reaching into the vide of my purse in order to pay for metro tickets only to touch the soft leather bottom.  What passes through your mind?  First sheer panic, then you convince yourself that you haven't looked well enough.  You return to your hotel you search everything the obvious and

La CAF- or complaining enough to get some money from the government

Oh France.  You're so beautiful but so complicated.  You're so up tight but you love you some fries.  You can be so polite but you choose to be rude.  France, Fraaaannnce why do you act like you do?  This is an ode to one small portion of the French buraucratic system known as ' la CAF ' or 'Caisse allocation familial' that is sooooo French.   What is CAF?   CAF is a housing stipend that is available to many people especially poor people (me) or people with kids.  You can even get the stipend even if you are not french, yes! How do you get CAF?  You send in every piece of information about yourself and your logeing.  In the end you would rather just send in a blood sample, all your ID cards and your life story if it would go faster. How long does it take?   For ev er for ev er for ev er.  I sent in my documents in October and I am just now getting my stipend the end of April.
