Bordeaux

Yesterday I started my 5 day trip to Bordeaux on the south west side of France.  It was a seven hour trip along the highway by Montpellier, Carcassonne, Toulouse, the canal de midi, then we entered les midi-Pyrenees, we went past Bergerac ( as in Cyrano de Bergerac), Landes de Gascogne -which is a national park with tall pine trees that people build tree fort cabins in {and yes gascon like d'artagnan from the three muskateers},we drove by Bordeaux and settled at her relatives' house in Hourtin by the ocean.  It's supposed to rain the next few days.

We are north of Bordeaux in le Médoc, which is known for several things:  cassoulet, huitres, foie gras, violettes, canard, wine, cannellé (I'll try to take photos and post them later). The area has pine trees, sand dunes rain and a nice accen, it's sing songy and southern but different from provence (kind of like Minnesota).  The family is really nice, two girls 14,15 and Thomas 8.  This morning I woke up to a one direction poster and when I walked in for breakfast Thomas took my picture ( smile ).  Thomas was humming Timber by Keisha this morning, the dad started humming it too then switched the tune to make it seem like he was not humming it too.

The younger daughter Emma has a mini hamburger kit, I told them that they are called sliders, and a cupcake kit.  Cupcakes are big here now, it must have filtered over.  She loves to eat and tries to sneak snacks and candy whenever she can.  Everyone is trying out their English.  Martine is super sweet and brought the best gifts for everyone; perfume and nail polish and a book for Camille, candy, nail glitter, scarf and a book for Emma and a mini foosball game for Thomas.  Camille is working on being classy and intelligent whereas Emma is a goofy comedian and Thomas is a pampered but nice little boy who plays soccer.

We have plans to visit Bordeaux, the big lake nearby along with the ocean, see some chateaux and hopefully try out some wine (I promised Daniel I would pick out some nice ones).

  1. Aw they seem like a really nice family. Hilarious that the dad was humming a Kesha song. One more week Em! Can't wait to see you and meet some of your friends that you have made. Search out some good wineries and areas for pictures. Where you are now sounds really pretty, the west coast with the ocean nearby. Take lots of pics :)

  2. I love your succinct descriptions of the three children! I don't even know them, but I'm sure it captures their personalities perfectly. I feel like I know them a little ;)
